A Practical Maintenance Checklist for Imported Tractors

Field notes, equipment analysis, and logistics dispatches from the global machinery trade.

A new tractor is a substantial investment, and the first 1,000 operating hours determine the next 10,000. Here is the routine our service partners recommend for imported Lovol, Massey Ferguson, and Kubota units.

1. Engine oil at 50 hours, then every 250. Use the grade specified for your climate, not necessarily the one shipped from the factory.

2. Hydraulic fluid level checked weekly. Top up with the manufacturer-specified ISO grade only — mixing types causes pump damage.

3. Air filter inspected every 100 hours in dusty conditions, replaced every 500. Clogged filters are the single biggest cause of early engine wear.

4. Tyre pressures checked monthly. Under-inflation costs fuel, over-inflation compacts soil.

5. Greasing points — every 10 operating hours for front loaders and PTO components.

6. Cooling system flush annually, and check coolant concentration before each winter.

7. Battery terminals cleaned and protected with dielectric grease every six months.

8. Belt tension and condition checked at every oil change. Belts almost always warn you before they fail.
